Valence French Bistro Rattan Short Stool - Crosses - Green/Navy Blue/White
DESCRIPTION
These short stools have been a staple in cafés throughout Paris for years. Besides providing a place to sit, they are great for women to place their purses, hold computer bags, or keep shopping bags off the ground. The stools take up very little sidewalk space and, when not in use, can easily be tucked away under the table. They also occupy less space than a chair, allowing more people to sit around a table. Each stool is constructed in the same solid manner as our bar and counter stools and provides the same comfort.
All of our rattan furniture is intended for restaurant use. They are crafted to the same standards as those found in the streets of Paris, France, matching those makers' quality, workmanship, and materials. Each piece is handmade in Indonesia – the birthplace of the rattan bistro chair. We use Manau rattan, grown and harvested in the Indonesian rainforests. It is known for its durability, strength, and weather-resistant qualities. Indonesia is the largest rattan producer in the world. Although Paris made the Bistro table and chair famous, Indonesia made the chairs possible.
Each piece of rattan is coated with PU-DOFF, a transparent solvent-based polyurethane resin that provides extra protection from UV rays. The unique coating is specially formulated to deliver a durable, protective layer to resist water and chemicals, making it UV-resistant.
Our weaving material is a high-quality, virgin HDPE (high-density polyethylene). HDPE is a highly sought-after material for use in outdoor applications, as it is UV resistant, impervious to mold and mildew, resistant to extreme temperatures (heat and cold), and waterproof. Virgin HDPE also offers excellent impact resistance and a high tension strength. It is easy to clean using a mild soap detergent with a soft sponge and rinse with water.
HDPE is the most environmentally stable plastic, emitting no harmful fumes into the environment. Manufacturing HDPE plastics requires only a fraction of the energy required to produce steel from iron ore, further contributing to its Eco-friendly classification.

CARE
The HDPE weave is easy to clean using a mild soap detergent with a soft sponge and rinse with water.
As with any outdoor natural furniture, certain practices should be followed to maintain its condition so that it will last for many years. It is important to be mindful of moisture and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. While rattan is weather resistant, over time, excessive humidity or wetness can damage this natural material. Keeping it dry and taking steps to protect it is necessary. Whether storing your furniture during periods of excessive rain or simply wiping it down regularly to remove occasional moisture, preventing moisture buildup is vital to extending its life. This guideline is true for all rattan furniture, no matter where the rattan is made or by whom.
No rattan furniture left outside that occasionally becomes wet is free from harm if left uncared for. For instance, our rattan chairs and tables are used in cafés and restaurants in Paris and are taken inside nightly, giving the chairs time to dry if rained upon.
Sun damage can occur to rattan furniture if no UV protection has been applied. Our rattan has been treated with PU-DOFF, a transparent solvent-based polyurethane resin that provides extra protection from UV rays. The unique coating is specially formulated to deliver a durable, protective layer to resist water and chemicals, making it UV-resistant. Although it takes prolonged exposure over many years, UV rays from the sun can cause the color to fade.
The ideal situation for any outdoor natural furniture is to be stored under an overhang, particularly during rainy periods or continued days of exposure to direct sun.
Taking precautions can help extend the lifespan of the rattan and keep it looking great for many years to come. This minimal care should allow the chair to last as much as 10 to 15 years.
