This rectangular grille works well on most any size glass. With the large open grille, the sugar and water can easily drip into the glass of absinthe. All four arms sit over the glass and is used to hold your cube of sugar. With a small hole located in one of the arms, the grille could be easily added to a key chain. It is an exact reproduction of a late 19th or early 20th century absinthe spoon.

This grille is used in the preparation of a traditional French or Swiss absinthe. A traditional absinthe is prepared by pouring an ounce of absinthe into an absinthe glass, then placing the absinthe grille on top of the glass and a sugar cube atop the grille. Ice water is slowly dripped from a fountain, carafe or balancier onto the piece of sugar. The cold sugar water then drips from the grille into the glass of absinthe releasing oils and perfuming the air with fennel, grand wormwood and anise. The combination also begins to turn milky white in color, as the water mixes with the anise.
